| Oxygen Conservation Offers Bottom-Line Savings |
Faced with rising delivery costs and cuts in reimbursement, CHAD's oxygen conservers play a vital role in helping thousands of home care providers preserve profitability by dramatically reducing the frequency of refills, cylinders and deliveries.Whereas an oxygen regulator delivers a continuous flow of oxygen, conserving devices, true to their name, conserve oxygen by delivering only during the inhalation period of a breath. This allows an oxygen patient to remain ambulatory for extended periods of time. Not all conserving devices are created equal, however, as some are designed to conserve at a higher rate than others. Conservation rates vary depending upon the type of conservation technology used (see Evaluating Conservers). The chart on the right illustrates the substantial impact conservers can have on weekly cylinder usage. Please note that cylinder savings is directly related to a conserver's oxygen conservation savings ratio. For example, a tank using a conserver with a 2:1 savings ratio will last twice as long as a tank using only a regulator. As you can see, your patients will need significantly fewer cylinders when using an oxygen conserving device, saving you valuable time and money! |
